India crowns its first transgender beauty queen

In a hotel in the satellite city of Gurgaon, close to the Indian capital Delhi, 16 would-be beauty queens from across India  helped to make history Sunday when they competed in the country's first ever transgender beauty pageant. Miss Transqueen India aimed to celebrate gender fluidity and enhance the profile of India's trans community, with the winner being presented with an opportunity to represent India at the International Queen pageant in Thailand in March 2018. Like other pageants, the event featured plenty of glitter and rhinestones, but unlike other pageants, Miss Transqueen India made a point of declaring all the participants "winners," in recognition of their struggle for acceptance and recognition. Buhari Chairs First Cabinet Meeting Since Return from Medical Leave

Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday chaired his first cabinet meeting since returning from sick leave in Britain this month. Buhari returned to Nigeria on Aug. 19 after more than three months in London for treatment for an undisclosed ailment. Last week he cancelled a cabinet meeting, raising concerns that the president, criticized for inertia by his opponents, was returning to his former ways, when he worked from home and missed weekly cabinet meetings. The refusal to disclose details of Buhari’s illness has caused speculation about whether the 74-year-old is well enough to run Africa’s most populous country and biggest economy. After returning form his first stint of medical leave in Britain on March 10, Buhari had reduced his working day to a few hours, diplomats said.

Possible Deadline Day Deals

1. Phillipe Coutinho to Barcelona: This is a saga that has gone on for a while. The Brazilian wants to go but the Reds want at least another season from their talisman. Barca are desperate. This could go either way. 2. Gareth Bale to Man United - Reports suggest that Bale is unsettled and that the Welshman would prefer a move back to the league where he made his name. Title contenders United seem interested in the pacy winger. 3. Thomas Lemar to Barca/Liverpool - Lemar is one of the few gems remaining from the title winning Monaco team. The Reds and the Catalans seem to have developed a Transfer rivalry. Irrespective of which club the player chooses, he could end up as the alternative for Coutinho either way. 4. Sanchez to Man City - Pep dreams of a team of 10 attackers. He has 9. 'Demoralised' Alexis Sanchez is his target. If this one goes through, the fans could turn on Arsene. 5. Raheem Sterling to Arsenal - But the Frenchman has an ace up his sleeve. He reportedly want

Floyd Mayweather bows out from boxing with a GOLDEN LEGACY, With a technical knockout over Conor

Floyd Mayweather Jr., the face of boxing for more than a decade, punctuated a stellar yet controversial career with a technical knockout over U.F.C. champ and first-time boxer Conor McGregor on Saturday night. In the 10th round of a surprisingly well-matched fight, Mayweather backed McGregor onto the ropes with a series of rights and lefts. McGregor’s face was completely bloodied. He was about to fall through the ropes, and the referee stepped in to stop the fight with 1:55 remaining in the round. Given that U.F.C. fights are much shorter than boxing matches, McGregor’s stamina was in question. And he certainly seemed to tire in the late rounds as Mayweather made easy work of him. “I gave the fans what they wanted to see,” Mayweather said after the fight. “I told them that I owed them for the Pacquiao fight. I must come straight ahead and give them a show.” The victory improved Mayweather’s record to 50-0, and allowed the typically defensive fighter to say farewell in thrilling fa

I congratulate them and I allowed him to come and see me to thank him personally for what he has done.” The President also lauded the leadership style of the governors of the 36 states saying he was pleased with the work they have done so far to improve the welfare of their various states.

People Think Taylor Swift Is Ripping Off Beyoncé's "Lemonade

Last night Taylor Swift released  the first single , "Look What You Made Me Do," from her album Reputation. The full video 📹 doesn't drop until the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday , but Swift posted a teaser  to the video.Although you can only see a hint 👀 of the full clip, at least four different stills show her new ~Bad Taylor~ vibes . Swift is dressed in a black leotard surrounded by dancers, as well as biting on diamonds with bright red lips‼️ While the album cover  reminded people of visuals from Kanye West, people  also said Swift seemed to be borrowing from the queen  of the revenge album: Beyoncé. The dancers 🏻 wearing leotards and black fishnets, lined up in a row under chandeliers in a mansion,  drew instant comparisons to Beyoncé's iconic 2016 album Lemonade, specifically lead single "Formation." Many on Twitter  complained  it seems Swift is offering a watered-down version of Beyoncé's Grammy-winning album. Watch teaser here  = http

Barcelona complete €105m Dembele signing from Borussia Dortmund, takes No.11 shirt

Barcelona have completed the signing of Ousmane Dembele from Borussia Dortmund in a deal potentially worth €147 million. The €222m received from Paris Saint-Germain for Neymar sparked the Liga side's pursuit of Dembele and Liverpool's Philippe Coutinho in the close season, but they saw bids for each rejected. While Liverpool have stood firm on their insistence that Coutinho is not for sale, Dortmund have surrendered to Dembele's wishes and allowed him to leave. He will arrive in Spain over the weekend to undergo a medical and sign his contract ahead of his official unveiling at Camp Nou on Monday. He is the fifth signing Barca have made in the current window, joining Marlon, Nelson Semedo Paulinho and Gerard Deulofeu in moving to Camp Nou. Ousmane Dembele has big boots to fill at Barcelona – or more accurately a big shirt. The €105 million signing from Borussia Dortmund has replaced Neymar at the Camp Nou club and has also claimed the Brazilian's squad No.11. Ne

Ronaldo's final appeal rejected

Cristiano Ronaldo’s final route of appeal against his five-match ban for pushing a referee after being sent off in the Spanish Super Cup was rejected by Spain’s administrative sports court (TAD) on Tuesday. “TAD has rejected the appeal presented by Real Madrid against the five-match ban,” a TAD spokesperson confirmed to AFP. Ronaldo blasted his treatment by the Spanish football federation as “persecution” after he was controversially shown a second yellow card for diving after coming off the bench to score as Real won the first leg of the Spanish Super Cup 3-1. The Portugal captain was handed a one-match ban for the 10th red card of his career and a further four-game suspension for pushing referee Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea in protest. “Impossible to be immune to this situation, 5 games!!” Ronaldo posted to his 108 million followers on Instagram after his first appeal was dismissed by the Federation last week. “It seems to me exaggerated and ridiculous, this is called persecutio

Nigerian gov’t bans Davido’s ‘Fall,’ ‘If,’ 3 others

Henceforth, Nigerians will not be hearing Davido’s ‘If’, ‘Fall,’ and three other Nigerian hit songs on their airwaves, Citi Showbiz has learnt. According naijaloaded.com.ng, the Federal Government of Nigeria through the National Broadcasting Corporation has banned Davido’s two hit songs, Olamide’s ‘Wo’ and ‘Wavy Level,’ and ‘Living Things’ by 9ice. Comedy Legend Jerry Lewis is dead

Jerry Lewis, the brash slapstick comic who teamed with Dean Martin in the 1950s and later starred in "The Nutty Professor" and "The Bellboy" before launching the Muscular Dystrophy telethon, has died in Las Vegas. He was 91. Over the past 10 years of his life, the cranky icon's reputation soured as he was forced to apologize for making a gay slur on camera during the 2007 telethon, continued to make racist and misogynistic jokes into his '90s, and didn't hesitate to share his right-wing political views. Held in high regard in France, he received the Legion of Honor award in 1983. “The Nutty Professor” (1963) was his biggest success ever, grossing $19 million. But by then his mugging and exaggerated body gyrations had become out of control, as had the syrupy moments in his films.

'Stronger' Chelsea are still title favourites, claims Mourinho

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has claimed that not only are Chelsea favourites to retain their Premier League title, but that the Blues are even stronger than last season. Antonio Conte has endured a difficult post-season at Stamford Bridge, seeing Nemanja Matic leave for United while his own transfer targets such as Romelu Lukaku have gone elsewhere. A spate of injuries has moreover left Chelsea down to the bare bones, leading Conte himself to admit retaining the league would be a tough ask. Mourinho dismissed suggestions the Blues were weaker, however, and stated they should be the team to beat in 2017-18. “When people say, for example, Chelsea lost an important midfield player, if you lose one but you buy Bakayoko and Danny Drinkwater, for example, what’s the problem?" the manager said in Friday's press conference when asked about Chelsea losing Matic. “For me, the favourite is the champion — always. It is for some reason they were the champions," he sa

Tottenham 1 Chelsea 2: Awesome Alonso ensures more Wembley woe for Spurs

Chelsea got their Premier League title defence up and running amid late drama as Marcos Alonso proved to be an unlikely two-goal hero in the 2-1 win over Tottenham at Wembley. Alonso produced the champagne moment in the 24th minute and a remodelled defence, featuring Andreas Christensen on his first Premier League start, repelled waves of Tottenham attacks with increasing ease until a striker undid their good work. Michy Batshuayi scored decisively when Chelsea clinched the title at West Brom in May but the Belgium international headed into his own net in the 82nd minute – three minutes after coming on. It left Alonso to step up thrillingly once more. The wing-back stormed into the Spurs box to catch out Hugo Lloris at the near post two minutes from time, leaving Conte to unfurl trademark touchline delirium. Highlights: http://v.duta.us/uUNlgQAA

Matic trolls Chelsea: Manchester United are bigger

Nemanja Matic feels Manchester United are "definitely" a bigger club than his former side Chelsea. The midfielder spent three-and-a-half years in his second spell at Chelsea, winning the Premier League twice in that time before moving to United ahead of this season in a reported £40 million move. He is loving life at United and risked the ire of his former club's fans by claiming he was in no doubt his new side were bigger. Asked if United were the biggest club he has played for, Matic told Sky Sports: "Definitely, everyone knows what Manchester United is about.  "When you say Manchester United, it is different. "Also Chelsea is a big club, Benfica are the biggest club in Portugal. But Manchester is Manchester. "When I came here for the first day, I could feel that the people at the club help you every day if you need something and supporters are very important for this club."

Statue Of 19th Century Slavery Advocate Removed In Maryland

Authorities in Maryland on Friday removed a statue of a 19th century Chief Justice who wrote the pro-slavery Dred Scott decision, in the latest example of action over memorials that have sparked protests across the United States. “While we cannot hide from our history – nor should we – the time has come to make clear the difference between properly acknowledging our past and glorifying the darkest chapters of our history,” Maryland Governor Larry Hogan said in a statement on Wednesday. Chief Justice Roger Taney’s landmark 1857 decision said: “The negro might justly and lawfully be reduced to slavery for his benefit.” Legal scholars say it is one of the worst decisions in the Supreme Court’s history. Authorities and protesters have since Saturday (August 12) removed monuments in several U.S. cities to the Civil War Confederacy of states that held slaves, arguing they are inappropriate and offensive.

20 Haircuts Worth Borrowing From the Boys: Brad Pitt, Kit Harington, and More

A haircut can give you a new life—that is the message promised by career-making stylists and also by last night's episode of Game of Thrones, which proves week after week that Jon Snow—who made a more literal resurrection courtesy of his dark ringlets last season—still has the best hair on television. Even if Kit Harington, the actor who plays Snow, has taken issue with the focus on his locks on and off camera, saying, “I like to think of myself as more than a head of hair,” he clearly understands the power of a good cut, keeping his artfully disheveled spirals in working order, whether his travels take him on dragon glass-foraging expeditions or beyond the Wall. Of course, Harington isn’t the first TV heartthrob to inspire hair envy. We’d hedge our bets that a young Emile Hirsch, cruising around Venice in Lords of Dogtown, inspired just as many kids to pick up skateboards as he did women to call their nearest colorist. Tom Cruise Injured, Broke 2 Bones on ‘Mission: Impossible 6’ Sets!

Tom Cruise has always prided himself on his ability to perform his own stunts in all his movies but perhaps that’s about to change. The 50-year-old actor injured himself when jumping from one London rooftop to another on Aug. 13 while filming Mission: Impossible 6. And, contrary to previous reports, it appears the injury was so serious, production has been shut down and Tom has flown back to the U.S. to recover. The Oscar-nominated thespian broke two bones in his ankle when he slammed into a building and it will take months for him to heal, according to sources with the Daily Mail. Because Tom is the film’s leading man and the entire story revolves around him, there’s little that can be filmed without him present. The delay could mean that Mission: Impossible 6 will be bowing on Christmas 2018 rather than the prior summer. Footage of the accident has been released showing the beloved leading man attempt to make the jump between rooftops, only to tumble into the building’s outer wal

MAN UTD FAN BOLT REITERATES FOOTBALL AMBITION FOLLOWING RETIREMENT FROM ATHLETICS.

Eight-time Olympic gold medallist and Manchester United fan Usain Bolt has reiterated his desire to get into football after retiring from athletics. The 30-year-old, who won an astonishing 19 global titles during a glittering career, has walked away from the track at the end of the 2017 World Championships in London. There was to be no fairytale ending for the Jamaican, as he could only claim bronze in the 100m final before suffering an untimely injury in the 4x100m relay on Saturday night. Bolt is, however, already contemplating his next move and admits that he would welcome the opportunity to become a professional footballer. Jury rules in favor of Taylor Swift in groping case

After nearly four hours of deliberation, a jury ruled in favor of pop star Taylor Swift in her countersuit against former radio host David Mueller for alleged assault and battery. Taylor Swift had accused the DJ of sexual assault for touching her butt when the picture above was taken. Mueller had then sued her for damages resulting from her accusations. Swift then filed a countersuit for $1. Swift's lawsuit against Mueller argued that the trial would "serve as an example to other women who may resist publicly reliving similar outrageous and humiliating acts." Mueller's attorney, Gabriel McFarland, claimed the photo did not show any inappropriate touching, and asked Swift while she was on the stand why her skirt did not appear ruffled in the front. Melcher, and Mueller's former radio co-host, Ryan Kliesch also testified during the trial, saying they had never seen Mueller act disrespectfully toward or inappropriately touch women.

Hundreds likely dead in Sierra Leone mudslide. Terrifying video

Hundreds of people have likely been killed in a mudslide on Monday in the outskirts of Sierra Leone's capital, Vice President Victor Foh said. "It is likely that hundreds are lying dead underneath the rubble," Mr. Foh told Reuters at the scene of the mudslide in the mountain town of Regent, adding that a number of illegal buildings had been erected in the area. "The disaster is so serious that I myself feel broken," he added. People cried as they looked at the damage under steady rain, gesturing toward a muddy hillside where dozens of houses used to stand, a Reuters witness said. Mudslides and floods are fairly common during the rainy season in West Africa, where deforestation and poor town planning put residents at risk.
